Dirty Boots
From the picture below, it looks like my PSU ( Public Support Unit) boots need a bit of a polish. They are issued to all PSU officers as part of our equipment and to be honest they are too big for me so I have to wear extra thick socks. I’ve had them along time and they have become very comfortable over that time. PSU is not just about public order it’s often more about public safety,...

Rather tired
Having worked the weekend as Force Silver, the first cup of coffee this morning was certainly needed . The weekend was fairly busy with a number of serious incidents dealt with.As the late turn Silver you finish in the early hours and remain on call til 7am, when the days Silver takes over. Sometimes you just have a feeling that you are going to get an early morning call. I had that feeling on...

A short day ..
On Monday the new faces joined the team and are settling in well with some thoughts and ideas as to what we can do differently. I am very keen that we do not throw the baby out with the bath water  but try and refine how we do things and what we do.I have some fantastic staff who are highly motivated I just want us to be even sharper and better. I was in early on Monday to be told about an...

Remembrance Day
Nick and I joined the Police Cadets and their leaders today for the parade in Bognor.I have to say that the weather couldn’t have been any better and we left the Police Station and made our way to join the parade. Upon our arrival I was surprised to see just how many young people were there representing their various groups and corps. I was very proud to see how much time and effort...

A day to remember
Today has been quite strange in a number of ways, I started off at Crawley for our regular Command Team Meeting where we were joined by our Chief, Mr Richards. He was there for 2 reasons; Firstly to join us at 11 am to remember all those who have fallen on the battlefields across the world and secondly to talk to us about our new Leadership Charter and where the Force is trying to go. He spoke...

Lots to do
Having finished at midnight on Saturday night and happy that the operation around Lindfield Bonfire went well, I was back in at work early on Monday. My first job was to attend the daily management meeting and update my bosses on where we were with the investigation into the incident at Butlins on Friday night. Prior to the meeting I had liaised with our Licensing Unit and was aware of the...

A reality check
Having had a busy day and feeling I have achieved quite a lot I am brought back down to earth when I get home.  One says ‘Mum, I couldn’t find an ironed shirt for school this morning. Can you make sure it’s better next week. ’ The other then tells me about a friend who was stopped by Police following a burglary, ‘he was ok about it and realised something had happened...

Busy day
The last few days have been very busy with lots of meetings discussing a number of things . We have also spent sometime looking at our current structures and are tweaking them slightly to meet the needs of Arun.  Yesterday evening I attended an Angmering parish council meeting to discuss a very sensitive issue that of gypsies and travellers. Our role as the Police is to uphold the law and ensure...
